Sedwick Treasure auction 26, lot 319

This specimen was lot 319 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 26 (Winter Park, FL, November 2019), where it sold for $714. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1706J, rare, ex-1715 Fleet. Super cool shape with a couple points, one extending well past the full and bold date and oMJ outside of a well-detailed shield, the cross side with corrosion and more flatness. From the 1715 Fleet, with generic certificate. Auction lot-tag personally signed by John Pullin. The John Pullin Collection of Dated Mexican Cobs." The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728. The low weight of this example suggests extensive corrosion.
