This specimen was lot 20217 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAZIL. 320 Reis, 1826-R. Rio de Janeiro Mint. Pedro I. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. The last digit of the date appears to be an overdate of 6/5, not listed in SCWC. Struck over a 1754-64 320 Reis "J" Series that exhibits a good portion of the 1809 shield countermark (KM-298 for countermarked undertype) in the central design of the obverse. A very rare date with an EXTREMELY RARE host coin having the previous shield countermark. Slightly unevenly struck leaving a decent amount of the undertypes legends visible in the upper left quadrant of the obverse and even more on the reverse. Well detailed and lustrous example with colorful, attractive toning. A seldom encountered date with an amazing host coin destine for an advanced collection."
This silver 320 réis was minted at the Rio mint 1824-30 altho the 1825 is the only date not extremely rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 8.96 g, 0.917 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-374; LDMB-P497.
