This specimen was lot 20176 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro I 960 Reis 1826-B, nice AU with attractive patina and underlying luster, very bold details including a full date and mint. Slightly double-struck and minted over a colonial 8 Reales." This type was struck 1823-27 in large quantities at Rio and Bahia tho the 1826-B is rare. All known specimens are overstruck, usually on Peruvian or Bolivian portrait dollars but many other undertypes are known. Specimens are even reported struck over counterfeits.
