This specimen was lot 20175 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Pedro I 960 Reis 1825-B, AU58 NGC, struck over a Mexico Cap & Ray 8 Reales, exceptionally bold details with full date and mint. Very attractive with silvery-gray toning." This type was struck 1823-27 in large quantities at Rio and Bahia. All known specimens are overstruck, usually on Peruvian or Bolivian portrait dollars but many other undertypes are known. Specimens are even reported struck over counterfeits.
