This specimen was lot 2509 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$240 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "HONGKONG, Victoria, 1842-1901. 1 Cent 1866, Heaton Mint. About uncirculated. Extraordinary condition." This type was struck for Hong Kong 1863-66 and 1875-77 and worn specimens are common. A mint was operated briefly at the colony in 1866-68 and then closed for high costs. The equipment was sold to Japan. Later issues were struck at Heaton or London.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000.
Specification: 7.4 g, copper, 27.8 mm diameter, this specimen 7.45 g.
