This specimen was lot 9165 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $557.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 20 Sols, 1723-G. Louis XV (1715-74). Ex: John Jay Pittman, lot #4088. Light adjustment marks on the reverse, dark toned. CHOICE UNCIRCULATED." The type was struck 1720-23 in large numbers while the adventurer John Law dominated the French government. Many were struck over petit Louis d'argent struck in 1720. This specimen is from the Poitiers mint.

Recorded mintage: 120,570 (all "flans neufs")[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26-28 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
