Sincona sale 35, lot 5195

This specimen was lot 5195 in Sincona sale 35 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Freiburg/Fribourg | Stadt, 5 Batzen 1827. Prachtexemplar. FDC. Überprägungsspuren. (city of Fribourg, five batzen of 1827. Cabinet piece, Uncirculated, Overstruck.)"

This type of 1827-28 is fairly common. This specimen appears to be struck from cracked dies over an older coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 4.48 g.

Catalog reference: D.T. 108a, HMZ 2-285d, KM 82.
