This specimen was of lot 24763 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IIII gold 4 Escudos 1803-FA Madrid, AU53 NGC, lustrous AU, noticeable planchet lamination across the bust. Scarce type." It is one of a series minted at Madrid 1788-1803 for Charles IV. The type is not cheap but quite a bit more available than the very rare eight escudos.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW.
