This specimen was lot 24122 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "Joseph II gold 2 Ducats 1776 E-HG, Karlsburg mint, MS61 NGC. Bright and lustrous with yellow-gold patina, bold definition, and moderate contact marks." Like most double ducats, this type listed for 1768-77, is scarce. Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 7 g, .986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-191 (Hungary), KM 1860 (Austria).
