This specimen was lot 31418 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $223.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "George IV Sixpence 1825, MS62 NGC. A gorgeous toned representative with banded shades of color and reflected gleam in the fields. A light wipe accounts for the grade." This three year type is noted for 1824-26. It was superseded by the bare head of George IV (KM 698). The mintage recorded here represents a substantial retreat from the levels of 1817-20, when millions were made; this type is decidedly expensive in nice condition. Large mintages would resume in 1834.
Recorded mintage: 483,000.
Specification: 2.82 g, .925 fine silver, .084 troy oz.
