CNG Lissner sale, lot 651

This specimen was lot 653 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $332.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS, Kingdom. William I. 1815-1840. AR 10 Cents. Utrecht mint; muntmeestertekens: torch and winged caduceus. Y.D.C. Suermondt, mintmaster. Dated 1828. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. Highest graded specimen, lightly toned." This type is recorded for 1818-19 and 1822-28 from Utrecht and Brussels. The 1828 is a better date but not rare. When the denomination was resumed in 1848, the fineness was raised to .640 and the weight reduced to 1.4 g.

Recorded mintage: 2,035,860.

Specification: 1.69 g, .569 fine silver, 18 mm diameter. This specimen is 17 mm diameter, 1.68 g, 6h axis.

Catalog reference: Sch-308, KM 53; Cr 74.
