This specimen was lot 43197 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "[[France|FRANCE]]. National Convention. Ecu de 6 Livres, Year II/1793-MA. Marseille Mint. PCGS AU-50. Some minor circulation is noted, but this more difficult type features some pleasing gunmetal gray paired with charming iridescence across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bernard Douvillé in Paris on 27 October 1962 for $19)." When this coin was struck at Marseille, the ''ancien régime'' had disappeared with the trial and execution of the king, who had appeared on the previous type ([[France 1793-D ecu|KM 615]]). In 1793, as invading armies approached from all directions, the Committee of Public Safety would initiate the Terror. In 1795, following the introduction of the metric system, the first five francs would be issued.

The first specimen was lot 43197 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. National Convention. Ecu de 6 Livres, Year II/1793-MA. Marseille Mint. PCGS AU-50. Some minor circulation is noted, but this more difficult type features some pleasing gunmetal gray paired with charming iridescence across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bernard Douvillé in Paris on 27 October 1962 for $19)." The second specimen was lot 74801 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. National Convention. Ecu (6 Livres), Year II (1793)-MA. Marseille Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. No dot variety; 1st semester. From the Richard August Collection." When this coin was struck at Marseille, the ancien régime had disappeared with the trial and execution of the king, who had appeared on the previous type (KM 615). In 1793, as invading armies approached from all directions, the Committee of Public Safety would initiate the Terror. In 1795, following the introduction of the metric system, the first five francs would be issued.

Recorded mintage: unknown, a somewhat better mint.

Specification: 29.48 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, lettered edge.

Catalog reference: Dav-1336; KM-624.7; Gad-58.
