This specimen was lot 43238 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $13,200. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE. National Convention. Silver 5 Sols Module Essai (Pattern), ND (1793). Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-62. Edge: Lettered (SOIONS UNIS NOUS SERONS INVINCIBLES 1793 in relief). By M. Brézin. A highly interesting and possibly UNIQUE offering in silver from the series of obverse and reverse designs by Michel Brézin, this example displays a winged faces surmounted by a Phrygian cap and with wreaths suspended from each wing. Very sharply struck and attractively toned a gunmetal gray, with some hues of cobalt and light amber spread throughout. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from the Farouk Collection in March 1954). Ex: Palace Collections of Egypt [King Farouk] (Sotheby's - 3/1954) Lot # 2173 (part of). Ex: Wayte Raymond (3/1942) Lot # 90. Purportedly Ex: Virgil M. Brand Collection (as "Ferrari-Brand," Schulman - ca. 1932). Purportedly Ex: Baron Phillipe de Ferrari la Renotière Collection. Purportedly Ex: Charles Rollin Collection (as of Conbrouse, 1839) # 180."

Brézin prepared another essai (VG-386) where the obverse depicted a fasces crowned by a winged liberty cap and a spear supported two laurel wreaths. Both are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: bronze, 39 mm diameter, lettered and dated edge.
