Sincona sale 23, lot 3001

This specimen was lot 3001 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$754 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH, Erzherzog Ferdinand Karl, 1632-1662 Taler 1646. Hall. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, archduke Ferdinand Charles (1632-62), thaler of 1646, Hall mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

Archduke Ferdinand Charles, son of Leopold V, received and squandered the indemnity paid him by the French in compensation for the loss of upper Alsace, including Ensisheim.
