Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74468

This specimen was lot 74468 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1916-I. Calcutta Mint. George V. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown. Highly attractive and pleasing to the eye, this Choice Uncirculated example displays much original mint red with mottled cobalt and magenta iridescent hues throughout. From the Richard Margolis Collection." The type was struck 1911-36 at London, Calcutta (this specimen), Melbourne, Sydney and Heaton. The Calcutta mint produced this type 1916-18.

Recorded mintage: 3,600,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
