Australia 1919 half penny

Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74469

This specimen was lot 74469 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $125. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1919. Sydney Mint. George V. PCGS MS-64 Brown. This beautifully preserved example displays rich mottle brown patina with an attractive iridescent sheen. From the Richard Margolis Collection." The type was struck 1911-36 at London, Calcutta, Melbourne, Sydney (this specimen) and Heaton. The Sydney mint produced this type 1919-22 and 1926. The Sydney mint closed in 1926.

Recorded mintage: 3,326,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.67 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
