This specimen was lot 37475 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. Bodle, 1696. Edinburgh Mint. William II. PCGS AU-50. Variety with high sword and sceptre. From the Richard August Collection." After the Restoration, bodles (tuppence, shown here) and bawbees (sixpence) were struck in Scotland in copper. The Scottish sixpence was equal to an English half penny while the copper tuppence or bodle did not have an exact equivalent. This type was struck 1695-97 and is very scarce in nice condition. The denomination was last struck in 1697.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3 g, copper, 20 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: S-5698; KM-137.
