Stack's Bowers October 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75015
SB1024-75015r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75015 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. 6 Kreuzer, 1748. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich. NGC AU-58. A pleasing example of this minor type bearing a curvature from the roller press striking process, with only mild wear present on the high points of the portrait." This type was struck 1745-53. If it was struck to the convention standard, six kreuzer = 1/20 convention thaler. The margrave sold his realm to Prussia in 1791, who in turn yielded them (Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Bayreuth) to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.2 g, silver, 23 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-202.
