Künker sale 294, lot 3520

This specimen was lot 3520 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,504 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN, BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, 1729-1757. Karolin 1734, Schwabach. Slg. Wilm. -; Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4429 (dieses Exemplar). GOLD. RR Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Charles William Frederick, 1729-57, carolin d'or of 1734, Schwabach mint. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The line lapsed in 1791 when the margrave sold the provinces to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. This type of 1734-35 is accompanied by a half carolin d'or (Fr-349).
