Brandenburg-Ansbach 1735 1/2 carolin Fr-349
This specimen was lot 3521 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN, BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, 1729-1757. 1/2 Karolin 1735, Schwabach. Slg. Wilm. -; Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4438 (dieses Exemplar). GOLD. R Min. Bearbeitungsspuren am Rand, winz. Justierspuren, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Charles William Frederick, 1729-57, half carolin d'or of 1735, Schwabach mint. Scarce, tooled on edge, some adjustment marks, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The line lapsed in 1791 when the margrave sold the provinces to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. This type of 1734-35 is accompanied by a single carolin d'or (Fr-348).
