Brandenburg-Ansbach 1753-G 2/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 42884 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. 2/3 Taler, 1753-G. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich (1723-57). NGC MS-63. Date in exergue variety. Beautifully toned with splashes of green and amber tone on the obverse and only pale tone on the reverse. While natural to the coin, a small depression on Karl Wilhelm Friedrich's cheek deserves mention." This type was struck 1752-53. It is scarce but much cheaper than the thalers. The margrave sold his realm to Prussia in 1791, who in turn yielded them (Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Bayreuth) to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 18.70 g, 0.833 fine silver.
