Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73295

This specimen was lot 73295 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Zurich. Taler, 1745. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. A popular crown that presents a delightful veduta of the city, this very lightly handled specimen presents an iridescent tone that deepens as one approaches the peripheries. For completeness, a light mark is noted above the horizon, just to the right, on the city view side." This type was struck 1745, 1748, 1751, 1753, 1756, 1758, 1761 along with thalers with a legend reverse (Dav-1789).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, probably 28.06 g, 0.833 fine.
