Uruguay 1869H 4 centesimos rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 21528 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "URUGUAY. 4 Centesimos, 1869-H. NGC PROOF-64 RB. Plenty of original mint red present with brown creeping in on most of the high points as well a small section at about 7 o'clock of the obverse. A handsome piece sure to excite collectors of Uruguayan numismatics." Uruguay lacking a mint, all of her coinage was produced under contract. The four centesimos was struck in Paris (mintmark "A") and Birmingham (mintmark "H", shown here). Patterns were struck in copper (shown here), silver and gold prior to the regular issue (KM 13). One and two centésimos were also produced that year.

Recorded mintage: 6,250,000 (Birmingham) + 2,000,000 (Paris).

Specification: 20 g, bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-PnA13 (copper), KM 13 (bronze).
