This denomination, called a "cruzado," was struck intermittently throughout the eighteenth century. This type is recorded for 1778-82. At some point the coin was revalued to 480 réis but continued to be struck bearing "400" on the obverse. This type has a Davenport number but it's really too small to call it a crown.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 14.7 g, 0.917 fine silver, 35 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 273, Dav-1631.
