Heritage sale 3076, lot 34536
Russia H3076-34536r.jpg

This specimen was lot 34536 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia: Nicholas I 5 Kopecks 1834 CПБ-HГ MS66 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, Brilliant silvery white mint luster with a nice strike. Only tiny marks are noted on close examination. The single finest certified example by NGC and PCGS combined." This silver type was struck 1832-58 simultaneously with a copper coin of the same denomination (KM C140) issued from several branch mints. This specimen sold for thirteen times the catalog value. An 1834/3 overdate exists and is priced lower than the regular date.

Recorded mintage: 400,000.

Specification: 1.036 g, 0.868 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-C163, Bit-387.
