Sincona sale 84, lot 308

This specimen was lot 308 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 875 CHF (about US$1,175 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 5 Roubles 1834, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB PD. Good very fine. Edge nicks."

This type was struck 1832-46 for tsar Nicholas I and is the most available five rubles prior to the weight reduction of 1897.

Recorded mintage: 1,346,000.

Specification: 6.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6.49 g.
