This specimen was lot 724 in Scotsman's Midwest Summer Sale (St. Louis, July 2012), where it sold for $____. The catalog description noted, "1893-CC PCGS MS-64. Beautiful platinum-white overall, with a dainty touch of apricot on Liberty's lightly frosted portrait, and the eagle's center. Sharply defined luster revolves readily and steadily through the fields, accenting extremely well struck details. This is evidently VAM-1 with just a mild die clash noticeable on the reverse." This issue from the Carson City mint is rare. The type was struck 1878-1904 and 1921, with the Carson City mint participating 1878-85 and 1889-93. Most Carson City mintages are low but large numbers were preserved in government vaults and dispersed in the 1970's and 1980's, making them readily available today.
