Jean Elsen sale 155, lot 1861

This specimen was lot 1861 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ETATS-UNIS, AV 10 dollars, 1893 CC, Carson City. Très Beau à Superbe. (United States, gold ten dollars of 1893, Carson City mint. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This specimen is one of a type struck at the Carson City mint mint 1870-84, 1890-93. Issues are also recorded from New Orleans (1841-60, 1879-1906), San Francisco (1854-89, 1892-1907), Philadelphia (1839-1907) and Denver (1906-07). In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust" was added to the reverse. This date is scarce, verging on rare.

Specification: 16.71 g, 0.900 fine gold, .483 troy oz AGW, reeded edge, designed by Christian Gobrecht.
