US 1893 dime rev Sc-456.jpg

This specimen was lot 456 in Scotsman's Midwest Summer Sale (St. Louis, July 2012), where it sold for $____. The catalog description noted, "1893 NGC PF-63 CAMEO. Description: Delicate honey-gold toning decorates the lower right third of the obverse, and similarly embellishes the lower third of the reverse, while the rest of the coin is off-white. The dies were relatively new enough to produce exquisite detail and fine cameo effect, with no obvious weakness anywhere. Only fuzzy hairlines in the fields account for the grade." The Barber dime was issued in large numbers 1892-1916 from Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco and Denver. This Philadelphia mint issue is common in all grades tho a little better than those made after 1900. A scarce 1893/2 overdate exists.

Recorded mintage: 3,339,940 plus 792 proofs.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, 17.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Charles Barber.
