United States 1891-O dime

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This type, struck 1875-91 in large quantities, is available in all grades. The issues of 1875-78 were large, followed by low mintage years of 1879-81, then large issues resumed in 1882 and continued into the Barber years. This product of the New Orleans mint is a common date and the first "O" mint dime since 1860.

Recorded mintage: 4,540,000.

Specification: 2.50 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, 17.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Robert Hughes and modified by James Longacre.
