Morgan Dollars are one of the most popular series in American numismatics and because of the plentiful quantities of most dates, they are affordable in all but the finest grades. There are a few key dates however, including 1889-CC, 1893-S, and 1895 (a Proof-only date), and others. Morgan Dollars are named after their designer, George T. Morgan. They were issued between the years 1878 and 1921, inclusive, except from 1905 to 1920. Issuing mints included Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The Morgan Dollar series includes a number of major varieties and numerous die varieties (known as VAMs).
