from the Stacks Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 22512
Baden SB818-22512r.jpg

This specimen was lot 22512 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 2 Mark, 1907. NGC MS-65. Struck to commemorate the death of Grand Duke Friedrich I. Blast white and fully lustrous with a frosted appearance on the obverse portrait. A delightful Gem example." This type was struck 1907 and is fairly common by dint of being saved. It accompanied a five mark also issued for the death of the grand duke (Dav-537).

Recorded mintage: 350,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-278.
