This specimen was lot 23062 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $840. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Iran|IRAN]]. Zand Dynasty. 1/4 Mohur, AH 1192 (1778). Khuy Mint. Karim Khan. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. A well struck and centered little Gem quality coin, outstanding for the type." The Zand dynasty, founded by Karim Khan Zand, conquered and ruled most of Afsharid Iran (except Khorasan) in the eighteenth century. Karim Khan's successors lacked his ability and the state soon crumbled under Qajar attacks. The SCWC notes that this type was struck AH 1190-1193 at Khuy (shown here), Tabriz, Shiraz, Kirman, Kashan, Rasht and Rekab.
