Sincona sale 99, lot 262

This specimen was lot 262 in Sincona Auction 99 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$415 including buyers' fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Alexander II. 1855-1881, 5 Kopecks 1862, Ekaterinburg Mint, EM. NGC MS62 BN. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (empire of Russia, Alexander II, 1855-81, five kopeks of 1862, Ekaterinburg mint. 1 rouble according to Ilyin, Extraordinary condition.)"

This is listed as a common date of a type issued 1858-67. The copper five kopeks was reduced to 16.38 g in 1867 and terminated in 1881. In the 1860's, the regime struck this denomination in silver (KM Y19.2) and copper (shown here).
