This specimen was lot 4009 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €330 (about US$445 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, BADEN, Friedrich I. 1852-1907. 20 Mark 1873. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, unified gold coinage, grand duchy of Baden, Frederick I, 1852-1907, twenty mark of 1873. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1872-73 only before being replaced in 1874 with a design with a modified reverse. Several German states issued gold five mark in 1877 but the denomination was abandoned in favor of a silver five mark, gold being restricted to ten and twenty mark pieces. This date is fairly common.
Recorded mintage: 517,770.
Specification: 7.96 g, 0.900 fine gold, .230 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 261, Fr-3752, J. 184.
