Heritage sale 3064, part of lot 29064
France H3064-29064r.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 29064 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $720. The catalog description[2] noted, "Louis XV. Trio of 1/3 Écu de France, ...2) 1722-G AU, Poitiers mint. ...From the Doug Robins Collection of Canadian Tokens." The type was struck 1720-23 in large numbers while the adventurer John Law dominated the French government. Many were struck over petit louis d'argent struck in 1720.

Recorded mintage: 266,025 on new blanks plus an unknown but large number struck over older coins[1].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine silver, 26-28 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by N. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: KM 457.8, Gad-306, Dr/2 № 568, Dr/4 № 832.
