This specimen was lot 3559 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,909 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BADEN-DURLACH, SEIT 1806 GROSSHERZOGTUM Ludwig, 1818-1830. 5 Taler zu 500 Kreuzer 1830. GOLD. Nur 1.788 Exemplare geprägt. Attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Louis, 1818-30, five thaler of 1830. Only 1,788 examples struck, attractive extremely fine.)"

This ill-advised issue was intended to compete with Prussian friedrichs d'or and other gold five thalers but was about 14% too light. It was abandoned after one year and the production of ducats resumed.

Specification: 5.73 g, 0.903 fine gold, .194 troy oz AGW, this specimen 5.73 g.
