This specimen was lot 2438 in Sincona sale 20 (Zurich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,600 (about US$2,005 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "10 Taler 1850. Gutes vorzüglich. (good extremely fine.)" Various types of ten thaler pieces were struck most years between 1813 and 1856; the type shown here was issued 1849-51 and is very scarce, tho the 1850 is the most common of the three dates. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866.
