This specimen is the first coin issued by Turkey as part of the F.A.O. series. Previous 2½ lira coins (KM 893.1, struck 1960-68, and KM 893.2, issued 1969-80) featured an Anatolian peasant sowing grain. Turkey issued an elaborate series of F.A.O. coins, including this gold issue from 1978. The obverse features Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, driving Turkey's first tractor in the early 1920's.
Recorded mintage: 200,000.
Specification: 9 g, stainless steel, 30 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 896.
