Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72179
SB523-72179r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72179 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. 4 Kreuzer, 1625/4-R. Joachim Ernst. PCGS MS-62. This beautiful and charming example delivers strong details and pleasing luster throughout." This type was struck for the margrave 1622-25. It is listed in the SCWC only with mintmaster F whereas mintmaster R is clearly shown here. Four kreuzer made a batzen, a denomination more familiar in Switzerland.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-24.
