Franconian Circle 1625-F 4 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 2922 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCONIAN CIRCLE: Imperial Circle, AR 4 kreuzer, Fürth, 1625, one-year type, pleasing appearance, F-VF, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." Fürth is a town on the Regnitz River in the principality of Brandenberg-Ansbach a few kilometers to the west of Nürnberg. This one year type is rare. The Franconian Circle was an informal currency union of several states directly north of Bavaria. We believe it included Bamberg, Schwarzenberg, Brandenburg-Bayreuth and Nürnberg. Four kreuzer made a batzen, a denomination more familiar in Switzerland.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.7 g, silver, 25 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-10.
