This specimen was lot 31232 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $12,925. The catalog description[1] noted, "Vittorio Emanuele III gold 10 Lire 1927-R MS64 NGC, Rome mint. A veritable rarity in all regards, this alluring specimen features the bust of Vittorio Emanuele III and an emblematic reverse design that demonstrates Italy's reliance upon its agricultural production. This coin is completely awe-inspiring--from it's sumptuous golden tone to its impressively bold design features to its reportedly non-existent mintage of just 30 pieces. Presently, this 10 Lire is the singular certified example of this date, thus confirming its excellence. Arguably unique but undeniably scarce, this is an absolute highlight from the ephemeral four-year series and quite possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own such a magnificent and rare piece of coinage." This type, the last gold ten lire, was struck in tiny numbers 1910, 1912 and 1926-27. Silver ten lire from the twenties (KM 68) are much more available.
Recorded mintage: 30.
Specification: 3.225 g, 0.900 fine gold.
Catalog reference: KM 47, Fr-29.
