Goldberg sale 84, lot 4446
Italy G84-4446r.jpg

This specimen was lot 4446 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $381.87. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. 10 Lire, 1926-R. Vittorio Emanuele III. Rare date. NGC graded MS-62." This type was struck for the kingdom of Italy 1926-34. The issues of 1926-30 were substantial but few seem to have been released as they are seldom seen. The other dates were for presentation only. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1926 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists.

Recorded mintage: 1,748,000.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, .266 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Pagani-691 (R); KM-68.1.
