Italy 1927-R 10 lire KM-68
This specimen was lot 70213 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. 10 Lire, 1927-R. Rome Mint. NGC MS-64+. '**FERT**' edge variety. This stunning near Gem is quite alluring and robust, presenting exceptional surfaces and attractive brilliance. Rather captivating and radiant." This type was struck for the kingdom of Italy 1926-34. The issues of 1926-30 were substantial but few seem to have been released as they are seldom seen. The other dates were for presentation only. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1927 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists. This variety has edge lettering spelled "**FERT**" whereas the other (KM 68.1) has "*FERT*".
