Italy 1928-R 10 lire
This specimen was lot 47933 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. 10 Lire, 1928-R. Rome Mint. Vittorio Emanuele III. PCGS AU-58. *FERT* edge variety." This type also comes with the edge lettered "**FERT**" (KM 68.2). The *FERT* variety is scarce, the **FERT** variety is rare. The module matches the pre-World War One two lire. This type was struck 1926-34. The issues of 1927 and 1928 were of substantial mintage but few seem to have been released as they are seldom seen. The other dates were for presentation only. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1928 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists.
Recorded mintage: 6,652,000 including KM 68.2.
Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, 27 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-68.1.
