from the Stack's Bowers 2019 NYINC sale, lot 40277
Gibraltar SB119-40277r.jpg

This specimen was lot 40277 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. 2 Sovereign, 1989. NGC PROOF-70 ULTRA CAMEO. Una and the Lion issue. Visibly flawless with a strong cameo appearance and no haze, tone or spots over the surfaces. Extremely collectible as a type due to its classic theme and sure to be highly sought in this ultimate grade." The semi-autonomous colony of Gibraltar has been captured by the Pobjoy Mint and used as a conduit for the issue of hundreds of NCLT on serious and frivolous topics.

Recorded mintage: 1,989 proofs.

Specification: 15.94 g, 0.917 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-B2; KM-29.
