This specimen was lot 59 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $21,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold cob 1 escudo, 1750 R, very rare, NGC AU 55, ex-Almenara. Bold full cross and castle with contrasting toning, slightly doubled date (last date of issue) but very bold mintmark and assayer creating a fun coincidence of L to left and R to right, also with (IND)IARVM REX visible in castle-side legend, in fact the only date in the Peruvian cob 1E series with any legend, other examples of which have different parts of the legend visible and make it clear that the cross side still had no legend save for a large + at the top of cross side, the castle-side legend apparently enabled by shrinking the diameter of the dot-border surrounding the interior. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type was struck 1747-50 and all dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 1,340.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.34 grams.
