from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 6899
Liberia SB117-6899r.jpg

This specimen was lot 6899 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $399.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBERIA. 100 Dollars, 1979. NGC PROOF-68 ULTRA CAMEO. Organization of African Unity issue featuring a trumpeting African Elephant. Lively well executed design with brilliant fields and full cameo affect." In the last twenty years, Liberia has fallen into the clutches of the private minters, who have issued such Liberian themed commemoratives as Star Trek (KM 128), Babe Ruth (KM 131) and Princess Diana (KM 464). This issue is a product of the Franklin Mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.2 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-16; KM-38.
