This specimen was lot 2078 in Jean Elsen sale 163 (Brussels, November 2025), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,097 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIBÉRIA, République (1847-), AV 100 dollars, 1979. Président William R. Tolbert Jr. KM 37, Fr-17. 11,18 g. Titre 0,900. (republic of Liberia, gold one hundred dollars of 1979. President Tolbert. Proof.)"

President Tolbert succeeded W. V. S. Tubman upon the latter's death in 1971 and ruled until his own death in 1980. In recent years, Liberia has become known for dozens of privately struck commemoratives, produced under license from the regime. These were struck at the Franklin Mint.

Recorded mintage: 1,656 proofs.

Specification: 10.93 g, 0.900 fine gold, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
