This specimen was lot 31128 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Liberia: Republic gold Proof "Cairo Conference - World War II" 250 Dollars (1/2 oz) 1995-PM PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Pobjoy mint, KM-Unl. This issue commemorates the Cairo Conference between Churchill, Roosevelt, and Chiang Kai-Shek and exhibits jet-black fields and slightly subdued frost to the portraits; tied for the finest at NGC. From the Paramount Collection." Many Liberian coins were not struck for circulation, being issued only in proof sets. In the last twenty years, Liberia has fallen into the clutches of the private minters, who have issued such Liberian themed commemoratives as Star Trek (KM 128), Babe Ruth (KM 131) and Princess Diana (KM 464). Altho the SCWC lists a similar 1/5 oz (about US$100 face value) coin as KM 166, this type is not mentioned among the many $250 issued in 1995 by the Pobjoy mint.
